Visit Bangkok This Year

I was talking today with a friend who recently came back from Vietnam. We both agreed that Asia is a cheap destination…once you get there. If you are already in Asia, then you are lucky to find cheap airfare to most destinations on the continent.

Thailand is an excellent choice for an Asian escape, whether you’ve been on the continent before or not. A cheap ticket to Thailand is very easy to find thanks to the many low-cost carriers serving the country’s capital city of Bangkok.

And once you get to the city, make sure to plan at least a day of sightseeing. Sure, it’s impossible to see a large city in one day, but this one day in Bangkok itinerary surely comes in handy.

Start the day with one of the many Buddha temples; from Wat Pho , cross the river to Wat Arun, but make sure to stop for lunch at ferry landing #10. Here’s where you can find the best street Thai food in Bangkok .

Then, make sure to spend some time in the markets. Most likely you’ll be able to find cheap clothes and of course, you can sample the street food again. Finish the day with a cruise on the Chao Phraya River (take the public taxi).

And yes, Bangkok is cheap. You can stick to $5-$10 a day and still do a lot of interesting things. For example, a full Thai meal at food carts costs around $1.60. Strolling the markets is free, unless you plan to bargain and actually buy something.
