The Best Time of Year

I just returned to Hong Kong after two months in the U.S. The weather here is incredible. October, November and sometimes December are wonderful. Temperatures in the 70’s farenheit and lots of sunshine with very little smog. In the fall the prevailing winds shift from the Southeast off the South China Sea to from the Northwest from Siberia and Mongolia, lowering temperatures and humidity and blowing pollution out to sea.

If you can manage it, come visit right now or plan for next fall. You not only avoid hordes of summer tourists, you will enjoy the best weather Hong Kong has to offer.

January and February can be rainy and chilly. Chilly that is if you aren’t from Montana or the upper Midwest of the U.S. like Pam and me. I always get a kick out of local people’s reaction when I leave the flat in shorts and a T shirt with the temperature in the 50’s. I also get a kick seeing people bundled up in huge down filled jackets when the temperature dips below 50. I can’t ever remember it dropping below 40 degrees farenheit.
