Pam, my wife, walks early in the morning, like 4:30 or 5:00 AM. This Saturday morning as she headed down through Lan Kwai Fong, the expat entertainment district, she noticed a young man sitting on the curb bleeding from numerous cuts and bruises. As she drew closer, some people started throwing bottles. She ducked into an alley-way to avoid the bottles and continued her walk. On her way back home she noted that the police had arrived and calmness and sanity had returned.
When we talked about it, she suggested that maybe it was an early WTO blow up. I had to chuckle because I doubt that the WTO protestors would be anywhere near Lan Kwai Fong and even, if they were, they would have a hard time affording the prices.
My guess is that the fight was triggered by the Football World Cup pairings draw which was televised here about 3:30 AM. Football is what gets the blood flowing in the usual Lan Kwai Fong crowd, not International financial policy. I could be wrong but I’d bet that somebody said something derogatory about somebody’s favorite team and harsh words, punches and eventually bottle throwing ensued.
Hope the incident makes the paper tomorrow so I can find out if I am right.

Did you ever find out what it was?
For Chris:
No I never found out what it was. The incident made neither the papers nor the local news. Just too much WTO.
